Funny how priorities change!

The last blog post was in February and I remember that excitement over something cool that I'd found. But I find mself focused now on matters of the heart. We found out that mom had a tumor on her kidney the day we all returned from Mexico for our spring break trip. What a devastating blow that was. I spent the next 4 weeks trying to make up for lost time, and spending every spare moment enjoying moms company. It's a shame that it takes something tragic to awaken us some times. It's not that we hadn't seen each other or tried to spend time together, but. . . Well life gets in the way sometimes. Anywho...

Mom had her surgery on Wednesday the 23rd, what an interesting time for us. We had so many people praying for us some that are close friends and some that are just concerned people with good hearts. In either case, those prayers were felt as mom was calm. Everything went well and she is already home and recovering. The tumor was cancerous. Renal cell carcinoma. Stage II, she probably won't have to have any further treatment.

Time is so precious, and there have been several instances that have made me aware of this fact. I am trying to change and do the things that matter most and some how the things that have to get down just get done.

I am thankful for all of my family and friends that have been so supportive and the kindness they have shared has meant the world to me.

Garrison is finished with baseball, Tanner is finished with golf and Jarom, Karli and Cal are in the middle of little league. Jarom leaves for sea camp tomorrow and he returns saturday. I hope he has a terrific time.

I am thankful for all of the blessings we have been given and that heavenly father has allowed us to have mom with us for a while longer. I love her.

One of those days, 5 weeks ago!

Just to update everyone. On Friday, January 18, 2008, I got a phone call from the football coach at the high school. Telling me that Garrison had just broken his wrist in PE class. I thought it was a joke at first. But then he said "I wish this was a joke." I had just finished getting ready to go to the temple, and was about to walk out the door to take my younger 3 kids to school." I was really thankful for a sister-in-law who lives close and was willing to pick up the kids and take them to school for me.

I went to get Garrison at the high school. By the look of the boys in the wrestling room, I new it must be bad. They had it iced up, wrapped with a seat cushion and tied in a sling with some track sweats. It was actually quite clever. Garrison was tough! We feel blessed by David's association with Dr. Washburn, an orthopedic surgeon, who got Garrison in within 30 minutes of me picking him up. They had to reduce the break it was totally displaced and somehow it hadn't come out of the skin. Broken right at the wrist and through the growth plate. It was ugly, we got a picture on Garrison's phone and if I can figure out how to down load that picture to the computer, I will let everyone take a peak. Well we got his pain pills and got him set up on the coach and situated. karli and Cal called home to check on him. They were really worried.

Sound stressful hugh? Just wait.. . that same Friday, at 6:00 Tanner had a basketball game. He was having an amazing game, although his team was losing by quite a bit. Tanner had 23 points, over 11 assists and several steals in the game. He was unstoppable, until the last 50 seconds in which his knee went one way and his body the other. He went down with a yell and grabbed his knee. His dad was right by the court and ran out there and knew just what to do. He had dislocated his knee, but fortunately for us David knew just what to do and was able to put his knee right back in. It hurt like crazy and we hauled him home, got some ice and had two injured teenagers on our sectional couch. Luckily it was a four day weekend and they could heal.

I did sleep on the couch for three nights and was hoppin' day and night. We were quite the spectacle at church, they only made it through sacrament meeting, but they did well. Garrison had his arm up in a sling to keep the swelling down and he was up preparing and blessing the sacrament. We tried to be reverent, but we couldn't help giggle as we watched him try to break the bread with one hand. What a dedicated guy. Tanner practically tripped every deacon as they walked by, because his leg was in a brace that it had to stick straight out.

Well there are many more stories, but I'll end this long entry for now. In 1 week from tommorrow the cast comes off and the brace can too. And then a couple of weeks for physical therapy. They have actually handeled things quite well, I am proud of both of them. Garrison's only complaint was that Tanner is still trying take all of the attention, he's been doing it since he was born!

We are counting our blessings after two broken teenagers and two sick little boys and a very sick husband, everyone is healthy and the injury report is looking up!
